On October 29th, 2012, New York was hit by superstorm Sandy, leaving devastating impacts for the state and especially for the Nautical Mile and its many businesses. The Nautical Mile rested peacefully upon the ocean before getting flooded by Hurricane Sandy.
It wasn’t easy. It took countless hours of work for days on end to get businesses back up on their feet. Without the help of the community chipping in, the Nautical Mile
would have never survived.

Longtime restaurants like “Fiore Brothers Fish Market” established in 1946, were destroyed by an electrical fire when Sandy came ashore.

Longtime visitors of the Nautical Mile joined together to reopen and rebuild what was lost of the Nautical Mile.

The popular lobster house Schooners closed their doors indefinitely after the irreversible damages caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Jerry Bracco, owner of Bracco's, revamped his dying business. He created what is now known as Bracco’s Clam and Oyster Bar, which includes a tiki bar and a 10-foot sandy area in front of the water, giving it a nice beachy vibe.

It took countless hours of work for days on end to get businesses back up on their feet even with Al Grover Jr. giving businesses free rent for about a year.

Two Cousins Fish Market
also opened their doors with amazing deals for their loyal customers.
